Teachers' tribute to bus crash victim
Emily Diamond died yesterday
Emily Diamond died yesterday

FORMER teachers of the woman who was killed when a bus collided with a tree have paid tribute to the "absolutely delightful girl".

Emily Diamond, of Wickham Lane, Abbey Wood, was walking along Tower Bridge Road when she was hit by a large branch, believed to have been torn off by a 188 bus.

Emergency services were called to the scene at the junction of Tanner Street, Southwark, but Ms Diamond, who worked for lettings agency Sunlight Projects in Tower Bridge Road, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 23-year-old was a pupil at Trinity School, Erith Road, Belvedere, from September 1996 to July 2003 before studying film and media at university.

Trinity School's deputy head Joy Long said all the staff are still reeling from the shock of what happened.

Ms Long said: "It is extremely sad.

"Emily was just an absolutely outstanding student.

"It is fair to say she was just an absolutely delightful girl.

"She was one of those kids who would just help and she was an all round great kid."

Assistant headteacher Darren Heimsath said: "Many of the staff remember Emily and the radical transformation from a quiet and immaculate Year 7 pupil into a confident, vivacious young woman.

"She was a very warm and caring girl and had an optimistic and effervescent personality."

Ambulance crews treated 18 people at the scene and nine people were taken to hospital, five with serious injuries.

Firefighters had to remove a casualty from the top deck of the bus.

Transport for London (Tfl) is carrying out an investigation into the accident.

The tree is owned and maintained by TfL and will be looked at as part of the enquiry.

Anyone who saw the incident should call the police on 020 8284 5931.

Such a waste of a good life, nobody was at fault tho. but I bet you my top dollar, the council concerned will be paying out a pretty dollar. Highway maintenance spring to mind.... And who's responsible for that?..mmm LOCAL COUNCIL

Mook, it's a fair comment Liza made. this death was senseless and prob avoidable. Someone has to be accountable for it.

mt- I agree, it was probably avoidable - many if not all tragic deaths (road accidents etc) certainly are. But this whole blame culture is unncessary. This sounds like a million to one type tradgedy, let's maybe concentrate more on the loss of a young life rather than finger pointing at the council for not properly looking after every tree in the Capital.

What a beautiful girl. A tragic waste of life My thoughts are with her friends and family.
I didn't know Emily but she was in my brothers year at Trinity and I often heard her name. There are no words that will help but I know her memory will be kept alive by everyone that knew her. RIP EMILY XXX
