Woman dies in bus crash tree horror
Bus crash victim Emily Diamond
Bus crash victim Emily Diamond

A 23-YEAR-OLD estate agent from Abbey Wood was killed in central London this morning when a bus collided with a tree.

Emily Diamond, of Wickham Lane, was walking in the street when she was hit by a large branch, thought to have been torn off by a 188 bus.

Police were called at 9.23am to the incident in Tower Bridge Road, at the junction with Tanner Street in Southwark.

Ms Diamond, who worked for lettings agency Sunlight Projects in Tower Bridge Road, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The former pupil of Trinity School, Erith Road, Belvedere, was described by a neighbour as a "lively and bubbly girl" today.

Sheila Thomas said: "She was lively, bubbly girl.

"A nice girl - and quite a friendly girl."

She added: "The police came round to the house this afternoon.

"I went round to tell her parents how sorry I am.

"They seem not too bad - they seemed to be bearing up."

London Ambulance Service treated 18 people at the scene and nine people were taken to hospital, five with serious injuries.

Firefighters had to remove a casualty from the top deck of the bus.

Roads in the area were closed, including Tower Bridge Road, Tanner Street, Druid Street, Tooley Street and Jamaica Road.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident.

Anyone with information should call police on 0208 284 5931.

R.I.P Emily.

I've been following this story all day, and I was so sad to see that the victim was a young girl from the area I live in.
Many of my friends knew you, and it's scary to think you can just be walking down the road and this can happen.

A terrible, tragic accident. My love to the family and friends of Emily.

This is such a tragic and freak accident, my thoughts are with Emily' family and friends during this sad time. But in connection with last comment it isnt the bus company who are to blame it is the local council, if they expect public transport to travel down that road then it is their responsibility to check for hazards such as this...... if someone had taken a little more care with their job then this awful awful tragedy would never have happened, RIP Emily x
