Weapons seized on bus
POLICE seized an arsenal of 16 weapons from a group of youths on a bus in Deptford.
On Saturday (May 17) officers found six knives, two screwdrivers, a corkscrew, a golf club, a metal baseball bat, a mallet, two wrench handles, a claw hammer and a metal bar.
The find took place after officers noticed a large group of youths at a bus stop in Evelyn Street, Deptford.
The youths were followed on to a bus.
Police arrested 24 people on the top deck, all aged between 14 and 18, on suspicion of conspiracy to commit violent disorder.
They have been bailed to return to Lewisham police station pending further enquiries.
Police are examining CCTV from the bus.
The find was part of Operation Blunt 2, a crackdown on youth violence and knife use.

Bloody great job from the Police there. These feral kids are using their cheap bus fares to go to and fro carrying an arsenal of weapons on to buses to cause trouble. Bloody thick idiots.

Let us hope that [bold]Operation Blunt 2[/bold] is successful and continues to weed out these social deviants.
Out of curiosity, how successful was [bold]Operation Blunt 1[/bold]?

Good to see Operation Blunt 2 having an effect on these violent thugs but they did not board the bus armed with weapons to go and have a picnic-people caught should be remanded or they will just gather more weapons and do the same thing tommorow.
This is good but does not go far enough in keeping our streets safe-a ZERO TOLERENCE POLICY is needed.

It is great these idiots were intercepted, but why release them? the way I see it they should all be charged for possessing offensive weapons. To arrest and just bail them sends out the message you can carry weapons on OUR streets and get away with it. The police did great, for all we know they could have saved one or more lives. But these idiots should be jailed for 5 yrs in a real jail.

As good a job as they did, this is definitely a case of the police blowing their own trumpet. It's strange how we only hear about these 'operations' when they are successful. If this had gone pear-shaped and the youths had gone on the rampage smashing up the bus, beating up the driver and injuring any passengers on the bus, would this still have been made public?

I have also just thought about how stuip they were. Because if I had any kind of weapon on me the last thing I would do is catch a bus or train etc.

The individuals concerned should now be told that if they are ever caught possessing a weapon again then they will get a mandatory prison sentence of nothing less than five years. End of story - one more strike and you're out. Or in, as the case may be.

Also what good will [bold]Operation Blunt 2[/bold] be if it has no teeth as has been proved.

I just wrote a comment on the other article to this subject and i am outraged that you people are going to pulish this. I am a teenager myself and this is going to make more teenagers think they are 'hard'. Also most people will now think that all teenagers go around carrying a arsenal of weapons!!! this is just another bad potrayal of teenagers.

Enlighten me somebody. Did the law not change last year or the year before that anyone caught with a weapen i.e. knife etc. gets 5 years!!! or did I dream it as wishful thinking, and if the law has changed why were these scumbags out on bail.
