Brother’s tribute to murdered teenager

THE brother of murdered schoolboy Jimmy Mizen has been paying tribute to the younger brother he called Jimbo.

The teenager was killed in an unprovoked attack at the Three Cooks shop at the junction of Burnt Ash Hill and Woodyates Road, Lee, at 11.50am on Saturday.

Speaking at the family shop in Sidcup High Street, where Jimmy, 16, worked most Saturdays, Danny Mizen, 30, said: "He had a great life. He was a great boy and I am proud to be his brother."

He said the family had run the general purpose shop for 22 years.

Mr Mizen added: "It was Jimbo's job to cut the keys on a Saturday, finish off the shoe repairs and tidy up.

"When he was about three and Harry (another brother) was five, dad used to sit them in the window wearing aprons and give them a pot of glue' which was really water, and some old shoes to stick heels on.

"Jimbo always said afterwards he knew it was water."

The shop, which had been closed following the murder, reopened yesterday.

Mr Mizen, who works full time with his father, Barry, said: "People have been coming in non-stop with cards and have left more than 20 bunches of flowers.

"The response from people has been very heartening and it has got the family through this difficult time."

He added: "Because we have so many brothers and sisters we have lots of bunches of friends who are all offering us help and support."

Mr Mizen spoke movingly about the family's visit to view Jimmy's body on Monday.

He said: "We were so happy we got to see him. I could have stayed the whole day with him.

"It was really helpful for my two poor brothers who were with Jimmy when it happened, to see him lying asleep so peacefully."

Up until 18 months ago Jimmy, who was 6ft 4ins tall, played rugby at Sidcup Rugby Club, where Mr Mizen was, until last year, the first team captain.

He said: "Jimmy was known as Little Miz. He was an okay rugby player but he really enjoyed the camaraderie."

Mr Mizen added: "There are a lot of people devastated over Jimmy's death but there are so many loving people out there, it has warmed our hearts."

There will be a memorial service at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Burnt Ash Hill, Lee, on Saturday at noon.

I also did not know the family, but after viewing various news articles, the impression i am left with, is that this family is very close knit, loving and supportive family. I cannot believe that this tragedy has happened, and my sympathies and prayers go out to the Mizen family and their friends.

If every Family were like the Mizen's there would be none of this going on in our Country.
They are such a loving Family who have brought their children up well.
My heart goes out to them. They are all a credit to society

So true! Everything they have done has shown them to be a wonderful family deserving of immense credit for the way in which they've been brought up and acquitted themselves throughout this terrible ordeal.

The Mizen family have shown us all what 'true family' means. We are humbled by their strength, joy and gratitude to God for having had Jimmy even for 16 short years, their fortitude, generosity towards the family of young Jimmy's killer and their refusal to give into feelings of anger or hate because of what has happened, when most of us would be caught up in a cycle of the 'eye for an eye' mentality. You are a beacon of light to us all, a model of how this world should be - someone has already said if the world were made up of 'Mizens' what a place it would be! You are a true example of Christian Life. God Bless you abundantly and carry you through this time. Jimmy is already in a better place of that we can all be sure. With love from the Gawor family.

Thinking of the Mizen family during this terrible time. I did not know them personally but one of my friends went to school with one of his brothers and informed me that this could not have happened to a more wonderful family than yours. God works in mysterious ways - let's hope that through the devestating loss of your son and the complete dignity you have shown as a family that it will influence others to be better people. You are an inspiration.

RIP Jimmy ... You will never be forgotten. Look after your wonderful family x

WHY DID NO ONE STEP IN TO HELP JIMMY? THERE WERE MEN INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THE SHOP. IF ONE PERSON HAD STEPPED IN TO HELP, THE OUTCOME MAY HAVE BEEN VERY DIFFERENT. IF ONE OR TWO PEOPLE HAD TRIED TO STOP THIS SCUM, OR STEPPED UP TO THIS BULLY HE WOULD HAVE BACKED DOWN AND JIMMY WOULD STILL BE ALIVE NOW. I AM A WOMAN AND I CAN 100% ASSURE YOU THAT IF I HAD BEEN IN THAT SHOP OR OUTSIDE I WOULD HAVE INTERVENED. HOW MANY PEOPLE WITNESSED THIS INCIDENT AND CHOSE NOT TO DO ANYTHING? SHAME ON YOU ALL. IT'S TOO LATE TO REPROACH YOURSELVES NOW. IS THIS WHAT THIS SOCIETY HAS COME TO: NO ONE WANTS TO GET INVOLVED? SO THE BULLIES AND SCUM OF THIS WORLD WIN. WE SPENT THE FRIDAY NIGHT BEFORE WITH JIMMY AT A PARTY AND ARE HEARTBROKEN THAT YOU ALLOWED THIS TO HAPPEN TO AN INNOCENT BOY!
RIP JIMMY YOU WILL BE SORELY MISSED

This is such a tragedy, what a lovely boy & such a lovely family, I admire the way the family are so supportive of each other, it is a real shame that the worl does not have more of these caring, loving families around, it would be a much more happier & loving place to be.
God bless Jimmy, I pray & I am sure that Jimmy is in a more peaceful & happier place now.

Something has to change.

I admire them for their strength and i know if that was my son i could never be that strong.

Jimmy was a lucky boy to have them, and they to have him.

I Said a Prayer of Sympathy to the good Lord up above,
To ask Him to console you and comfort you with love.
I prayed for help to understand the wisdom of His ways, To trust that life is measured by love and not by days.
I prayed He'd hold your loved one in the hollow of His hand, Filled with perfect peace and joy, according to His plan. Until that promised day when both of you will be
Together in His warm embrace throughout eternity.
R.I.P Jimmy.

My heart goes out to Jimmy's family. I admire his family for being so forgiving - a lovely way to be if only one can. I pray that one day this country's violence problems will be sorted. Sending Christian Love . . .

Hindsight is a wonderful thing Dee and I think we would all like to think we would have stepped in to help, but in reality you can't say what you would do until you were in that situation. I don't think you can blame the people in the shop, it probably happened so fast. RIP Jimmy.
