A COMMUTER who died after trying to get back on to a train to get something he had left behind has been named.
David Davies, 38, of Fairlawn Avenue, Bexleyheath, got off the Charing Cross to Crayford train at Barnehurst station, at around 5pm on Friday, but realised he had left something on the train.
The train doors had already automatically closed and the train had started to move when Mr Davies tried to go back, but slipped and fell underneath the train.
It was believed to be a toy car for his son and flowers for his wife that he had gone back for.
Mr Davies was treated by ambulance staff, but died at the scene.
Barnehurst station was closed for some time while the incident was dealt with.

Im writing this comment with tears flowing down my face, how tragic that this obviously devoted husband and father has been tragicly taken from his family.

First of all my condolences to the wife and son of this man. I have seen the cards and flowers left in his memory at Barnehurst station, and what happened to him is regularly on my mind. I have heard the tragic reasons for him buying the toy and flowers for his family, if this is correct then i understand why these items were very important to him. It is so sad he has lost his life for them.
In my personal opinion if the station platforms were staffed in the evening rush hours as well as in the morning then this may have not happened, assuming the platform staff would have stopped him trying to stop the train. They manage to come out to clear trains that terminate at Barnehurst, why can they not stay out?

This is such a tragedy to such a beautiful family. Why do such horrific things happen to such lovely people? Dave & his wife are good friends of mine & I shall watch their son grow up loving & remebering his father.

I have known Dave for many years and his passing has come as a great shock to me and my family. Dave was extremely well known and liked in the advertising industry. My thoughts are with his Wife and son and all his family and friends.

I am a personal friend of Shelley's family and new Dave well - he was a larger than life bubbly character and a great dad. He also beat me at Boggle once and I've never forgiven him! I shall miss him very much. Was at the funeral this morning and there must have been 600 mourners there. A true testament to Dave's popularity. Vincent Goodman

My sincere condolences to his beloved ones. I just read what happened and just wanted to tell you how sorry I am for your loss. My own dad died when I was 2 1/2 and he was only 36. David's death is so very sad and tragic it really made me think how we all take life for granted. I am sure that his spirit will be forever with Daniel his son, his wife and all of you who loved him. I am so sorry that he left you so sudden, so unexpected.
I will pray for his soul, and all of you.

This is absolutely heartbreaking and my deepest sympathies to David's wife, son, family and friends. He sounded like such a wonderful and thoughtful person. His picture with little Daniel reflects the warmth that he radiated, based on the comments and special memories posted here from those who knew him.

It was a testimony to how much Dave will be missed by the number of people who attended his funeral.Personally I've had better days but it was a pleasure to celebrate his short life, he left us all with many good memories of happy days.

i witnessed this terrible accident at banrehurst train station and havnt been able to take my mind off it. i feel great sorrow for davids family and i send them my condolences.

My condolences to Dave's family as I have only just recently found out. I knew him well and we were very close, as I worked with him in Erith in the Co-op 20 years ago, yet not seen him since. His death came as a shock to me and friends and family who knew him. I won't forget the good times we used to have together. R.I.P Dave.
