Bakery murder: Man arrested
Jimmy Mizen
Jimmy Mizen

A TEENAGER has been arrested in connection with the murder of Jimmy Mizen.

The 19-year-old man is in custody at a south London police station and is being questioned about Jimmy's death.

Jimmy had gone out with his older brother to buy his first lottery ticket on the day after his 16th birthday.

But he was killed in an unprovoked attack at the Three Cooks shop at the junction of Burnt Ash Hill and Woodyates Road, Lee, at 11.50am on May 10.

He suffered serious injuries to his neck and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Speaking at his family home in Dallinger Road, Lee, yesterday his aunt Elizabeth Everson said: "He was a wonderful boy and he left a great hole in everyone's life.

"We are all absolutely devastated. He was a very, very special boy."

This week would have been the start of the GCSE exam period for the St Thomas More RC School pupil.

A mass was held in his memory yesterday at the Eltham school, where his father Barry is deputy chairman of governors.

Headteacher Markus Ryan said: "Jimmy was a very well liked, gentle student who always tried his best.

"The school community is extremely shocked and saddened."

He added: "Jimmy comes from a loving, large, Catholic family. Our thoughts and prayers are with Jimmy and his family at this very sad time."
