Mass in memory of murdered boy
Jimmy Mizen was killed on Saturday
Jimmy Mizen was killed on Saturday

CLASSMATES of murdered pupil Jimmy Mizen will attend a mass in his memory today (May 12).

Jimmy was killed in an unprovoked attack at the Three Cooks shop at the junction of Burnt Ash Hill and Woodyates Road, Lee, at 11.50am on Saturday.

He suffered serious injuries to his neck and was pronounced dead at the scene.

This week would have been the start of the GCSE exam period for the 16-year-old at St Thomas More RC School.

The school's headteacher Markus Ryan said: "Jimmy was a very well liked, gentle student who always tried his best.

"Jimmy comes from a loving, large, Catholic family.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with Jimmy and his family at this very sad time.

"The school community is extremely shocked and saddened by today's tragic events.

"We are holding a leavers' mass today as it will be the last time we will have our Year 11 students together in the school.

"St Thomas More has a very caring, compassionate school community and that mass will be dedicated to Jimmy and his family."

Jimmy's dad is the deputy chairman of governors.

Mr Ryan added that the school will be considering what extra support it needs to offer to Jimmy's classmates during the already stressful GCSE period.

  • The vital witness to the attack who police were asking to come forward yesterday has now done so.

Anyone with information about the incident should call 020 8721 4205 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

Let us hope that the witness is a reliable one and that the killer is brought to justice.

By justice I mean that he should be thrown in a cell and the key thrown away, not a two-year suspended sentence and a spot of community service.

To be honest, I would like to see him hang but unfortunately our 'democracy' will not allow us to vote on that one because the government know full it would be a resounding 'aye'!

My thoughts are with Jimmy's family.

Such a terrible terrible thing to happen and such a waste of such a young life.

My thoughts and prayers are with this young man’s family, may he rest in peace.

I must agree with Erastus lets hope this individual is caught soon and he gets a suitable punishment.

My sincere condolenses to this young mans family. He had his whole life in front of him. Some mindless idiot has now taken away his precious life. Lets hope that the low life who did this gets put away for a long time. The punishment should always fit the crime.

So sad rest in peace little one. x x

I see your point Rebecca, but there are people literally 'getting away with murder' these days.

People are not thinking twice about ending a life because all it does is add to their street credibility along with a stay in one of Her Majesty's holiday camps for a couple of years where they can learn more about their rights.

The government MUST start making examples of murderers and get the message across that if you end a life you will pay a very high price indeed.

I did'nt know Jimming and i dont know his family but my thoughts are with you all. I think the boys that done this to jimmy are the most evilest people on this planet. All because Jimmy was the bigger person and stepped away from a fight. Jimmy had his whole life ahead of him so many things to do and achive. See the people that go around killing others obviously have no future. My thoughts are with Jimmys family RIP JIMM

I use to walk past that very spot twice a day and you would never think something like this would happen so close to home.

When will teenagers realise that violence solves nothing? When you murder someone you are not only taking away their lives you are taking away the life of their parents, family and friends too. When you are caught you will ruin your own life and that of your faimly and friends too. No petty arguement is worth all that. The pain of missing someone is unbearable- a life sentence, shorter than that imposed by our so called justice system. I hope this person will have the decency to give themselves up and save further heartache to this family but I doubt it. My heart goes out to Mrs Mizen she seems to be such a brave and wonderfully forgiving person. I hope people will listen to what she says and think about it.

My heart goes out to Jimmy's family at such a tragic loss of an innocent life.
Attacked by the scum of the universe, their warped minds bent on violence and destruction.
I do think it is high time this pathetic government got tough on these inhuman thugs !
