A HORSE has had to be destroyed after being found bound and dumped in a village lane this morning.
Police found the black and white horse lying by the side of Shellbank Lane in Bean at 5.45am after a report from a member of the public.
Its hind legs were bound and tied to a fence and a tarpaulin had been tied around its middle. It was severely emaciated.
The horse was in such a bad way that a vet called to the scene had to put the animal down.
PC Dionne Ridley, who found the horse, said: "The animal was clearly distressed and in a very bad way.
"I can't believe anyone would be so cruel. It was sickening."
Police believe the animal was dumped during the night.
Any witnesses should call the RSPCA on 0300 1234999 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
