Sundridge Park Lawn Tennis Club's annual tournament was sponsored this year for the first time by Whitehouse BMW The stars of the tournament were undoubtedly Michael Briggs from Farningham and Bexley's Robert Dee, who won six events between them, including four singles titles.

Robert had looked in good form and composed all week and was a comfortable winner of both the 21 and under and 18 and under singles, with only Ravi Salh taking a set from him in the younger age group quarter-finals.

Michael was victorious in the under-16 and under-14 age groups, winning the latter for the second successive year.

The title nearly slipped away from him, however, in an epic three-hour semi-final with Tom Sippy, in which Michael eventually won 7-5 in the final set.

The 16 and under singles final was a match of high quality with Michael coming out on top in two close sets against Ravi Salh.

After all his exertions in the singles, there was a quick bite to eat and a bit of a rest and then Michael was back on court teaming up with the losing finalist in the 14 and under singles, Gianluca Sidhu, to win both the boys' 14 and under, and 18 and under doubles.

Particularly worth a mention is the older age group final, when they beat Jonathan Wells and Dominic Moniz both at least two years their senior in three absorbing sets, having lost the first 6-0.

It was a good day for the Briggs family, with Michael's brother Simon retaining the 12 and under singles title by comfortably defeating Francis Sargeant.

In the girls' events, pride of place went to Natalie Ali from Beckenham, who won both the 14 and 16 & under singles.

The final of the younger age group was an excellent match, with Ali beating Elizabeth Ashworth 6-4, 6-3. Ashworth made amends for her defeat later in the afternoon by beating Priya Sippy to lift the 12 and under singles.

In the girls' 14 and under doubles, Stephanie Moniz and Amy Hiller retained the title they won in 2003 with a 6-4 6-4 defeat of Sippy and Katie Sewell.

The prizes were presented by Graham Booth from Whitehouse BMW in Bromley. Once again a very successful tournament was completed on time and much credit must go to the tournament committee for its efforts but particularly secretary Hazel Hayden, who has been running the event for 14 years.
