Settled at last! The question of whether Wagon Wheels and other argument-causing chocolate treats have got smaller

“I’m telling you, they have definitely shrunk in size,” someone will claim.

“No they haven’t, it’s just our hands were much smaller when we were kids so they felt bigger back then,” someone else will come back.

And so it will go on, unresolved, leaving everyone as unsatisfied as eating one of the teeny Wagon Wheels does.

Now we have new information that you can take into future arguments like this – Wagon Wheels have indeed got smaller and lighter.

Similar changes apply to other chocolate treats too. It’s not all in your mind and it’s not an illusion – Yorkie and Twix are also not what they used to be.

Surprisingly, there are various cases where your memory is playing tricks on you if you think your favourite sweets are shrinking. Snickers, Double Decker and Mars bars have all grown – although it does depend on what decade you remember them from as there have been fluctuations.

For example, Cadbury appears to be playing games with us when it comes to the old Crème Egg, which has increased in weight and then decreased again. Nestle has done the same with the four-fingered favourite KitKat, which has gone up and down again.
