Whether it’s the rise of cab-hiring service Uber, the online retail revolution or the disappearance of traditional high street stores, the way we do business and go shopping is rapidly changing.

With this in mind, a survey was carried out asking Londoners what things they think will die out in the next 10 years and what will stand the test of time.

The digital age research was commissioned by online estate agents easyProperty.

Top 10 things Londoners believe will not be around in 10 years’ time:

  1. X Factor 38.8%
  2. Big Brother 30.1%
  3. The greengrocer 29.4%
  4. Hipster beards 26.1%
  5. The computer mouse 24.4%
  6. High street estate agents 19.7%
  7. Selfies 18.7%
  8. Skinny jeans 15.4%
  9. The Labour party 11.4%
  10. Cash 7.7%

And the top 10 things Londoners believe will still exist in a decade’s time:

  1. Home ownership 63.2%
  2. The human race 53.8%
  3. The monarchy 50.8%
  4. Marriage 44.8%
  5. Champagne 41.8%
  6. Tattoos 35.8%
  7. Denim 35.5%
  8. Facebook 27.4%
  9. Coronation Street 22.1%
  10. Britain’s Got Talent 8.0%

There are some strange anomalies between the lists, such as many people predicting the demise of The X Factor but expecting Britain’s Got Talent to still be on in 2025.

But wouldn’t it be wonderful if most of the predictions in the top list came true? No more Big Brother, the end of hipster fashion, the selfie obsession over … we can but dream.
