More than half of people in London still believe in superstitions, with Friday the 13th being one of the most enduring.
Despite London being ranked as one of the least superstitious British cities in a survey, there are still 53 per cent of people believing in at least one traditional superstition and 42 per cent who reckon today’s date will bring them bad luck.
The top 10 most commonly believed superstitions in London are:
- Opening an umbrella in the house is bad luck
- You touch wood for good luck
- If you walk under a ladder you will have bad luck
- Breaking a mirror will bring you seven years of bad luck
- Friday the 13th is an unlucky day
- To find a four-leaf clover is to find good luck
- A groom seeing the bride's dress before the wedding day is bad luck
- Crossing your fingers helps to avoid bad luck
- Horseshoes are lucky
- The number seven is lucky
