Vitality beauty sneak preview
12:25pm Friday 6th January 2012 in Latest Articles
HERE at Limited Edition, we’ve been given an exclusive sneak preview of Vitality, the UK’s largest beauty, health and wellbeing event for women and picked up some handy tips and tricks from the industry insiders.
Over the next few weeks we will be sharing all we've been told so you can look and feel fabulous too. This week it’s all about beauty.
Why is it that we are constantly updating our wardrobes yet when it comes to make-up and skincare we play it safe with the same old products?
Vitality attracts a host of beauty brands from households names like Bio-oil to specialist organic beauty brands such as Pai Skincare. Here are some of our handpicked favourites who can share with you a little about what you can expect from the show.
Foundations have become lighter and lighter over recent years as thick coverage has gone out of fashion. Millions of women have already converted to mineral make-up; you get all the coverage you want, but look and feel as if you’re not wearing any makeup at all.
Changing from liquid to powder is a big change and many women want to know how they can achieve the same effects as the professionals.
This is why bareMinerals have recruited top European Makeup Artist Sarah-Jane Froom to give demonstrations at the show.
Sarah said: “At the show we will be present giving 'bareMinerals make-unders' to customers all day – teaching them how to achieve a flawless complexion.
A make-under is a step-by-step application that allows a woman to discover her natural beauty with products that enhance every feature she wants to reveal.”
But what is Sarah’s must-have product from the range? She told us: “The bareMinerals® Original SPF 15 Foundation has won many beauty awards. It looks like a powder, feels like a cream and buffs on like silk for a flawless complexion”.
To watch Sarah-Jane in action take a look at this video or for a personal make-up consultation book yourself a VIP Style Experience at this year’s show. Visit vitalitylive.co.uk to find out more.
Sarah Brown is passionate about skincare with natural ingredients – so passionate that she set up her own beauty range called Pai.
Sarah is a healthy skin expert who believes fewer chemicals means more beautiful skin. She has put together some of her top tips ahead of her appearance at the show.
Clean = Clear
Thorough cleansing at night is the first step to achieving a flawless complexion. Cleansing unblocks pores and removes surface dirt and bacteria, preventing the spots and blackheads many women feel the need to cover with heavy make-up.
Avoid cleansing products that foam as they contain chemical detergents which strip away all-important natural oils. Bad news for those prone to spots as this causes an overproduction of sebum which clogs pores and leads to breakouts.
Pai Organic Camellia & Rose Cleanser is super gentle and 100% detergent-free. It comes with an exfoliating Muslin Cloth which gently lifts away dead cells to leave skin beautifully soft and supple.
Finish your cleansing process with a spritz of Pukka’s Rosewater Spray (available through LoveLula.com), a natural toner great for reducing blemishes and oily skin.
Eye care, do you?
If you have been burning the candle at both ends, dark circles and puffy lids can give you away. Fine lines and crow’s feet are another obstacle in the fresh-faced race. The skin around the eyes is very thin and produces little natural oil, so this is the first place we start to age.
A natural supplement like Eye Bright is great for treating eye fatigue. Available from most health stores, it is best used as an eye wash or compress.
Pai Organic Echium Eye Cream is rich in Omega three and six, which have powerful anti-ageing and cell regenerative properties.
For an instant pick-me-up apply it cool from the fridge. This will help to reduce puffiness and will brighten skin tone allowing you to ditch the under-eye concealer.
If you have to resort to make-up, keep it neutral. Applied to the inner and outer corners of the eye, Benefit’s Eye Bright Pencil instantly awakens tired eyes and the pale pink tint gives your peepers a natural glow.
Moisturise in and out
Everyone knows the difference regular moisturising can make, but few people recognise the importance of matching your moisturiser to your skin type.
Go for something too rich or beeswax-heavy and you may find your make-up sliding down your face. Opt for something too light and make-up will look dry and powdery on the skin.
At Pai we carefully select ingredients for their remedial properties and suitability for different skin types.
The natural-active ingredients in our Organic Geranium and Thistle Combination Skin Cream rebalance the skin and even out skin tone. As it’s fast-absorbing it provides the perfect base for make-up and is a favourite amongst Hollywood make-up artists.
To keep your skin smooth and conditioned, it’s also important to moisturise from within. Increase your intake of Essential Fatty Acids (that’s Omega three, six and nine) – oily fish, seeds and nuts are all good sources. If your diet is lacking these foods then it’s worth investing in some natural supplements, Higher Nature do a good range.
Skin is the body’s largest organ, covering a surface area of up to two metres and varying in thickness across the body.
Bio-Oil is a revolutionary product that helps care for our skin through each stage of life, from the hormonal changes that affect our skin as teenagers through to wrinkles and sagging skin as we age.
As the skin experts we wanted to know Bio-oil’s top tips for keeping skin looking great during winter.
Stay smooth and supple
Take extra care to moisturise all over – not just your face and neck. Bio-Oil’s concentrated formula is enriched with Vitamin E to protect against dehydration and Vitamin A to keep skin supple and smooth.
Nurture your skin
Don’t forget, in winter your skin is made more sensitive by the cruel conditions and needs some extra TLC. Bio-Oil is loaded with calming Chamomile and soothing Lavender oil, whilst natural Rosemary oil reduces puffiness.
The conditioning Calendula Oil in Bio-oil is a natural antioxidant that clarifies the skin and stimulates the growth of new cells. Massage into your face after showering for a youthful glow.
Many women have a strong emotional connection to Bio-oil as it is renowned for helping stretch marks and scars. In this video Dr Chris gives expert advice to anyone worried about this issue.
bareMinerals, Pai and Bio-oil will all be exhibiting at this year’s Vitality shows (Vitality Show, Earls Court, London on March 22-25 and Vitality Boutique, glow at Bluewater from April 26-29).
