It took over a year for Bill’s to open in a town that is not exactly short on places to get a bite to eat. But serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, our reviewer Jake Bacon found that everything about the popular British chain fits the bill.

As you walk into the packed restaurant, the boutique-style furniture combined with exposed ceiling and the odd chandelier here and there makes for a bright atmosphere that feels like a breath of fresh air.

My friend and I were greeted by a waitress who was jolly and fun throughout – she even noted down our orders while dancing.

You always get certain waiters/waitresses who cross the line by being too friendly but Bill’s staff know the limit.

We both had beef burgers which went down a treat and the eight-year-old came out in me when I gulped down a chocolate brownie milkshake which was thin rather than thick but made up for with the addition of small chocolate flakes.

The Art Deco building in Nelson Road holds 150 people split over two floors and despite opening only two days before our lunch, the wait for the main course and dessert was minimal.

I’d been to another Bill’s restaurant in Bluewater and loved it – well, the Greenwich one only reaffirmed that feeling.

Bill’s is stuck between Jamie's Italian and Pizza Express – two massive chains – and for me there’s only one chain out of those three where I’m going next.

Bill’s is reasonably priced for a restaurant in the centre of Greenwich, the staff are welcoming and the food makes you want to come back for a second sitting… what more could you want?
