A fresh food concept which has proved a success on the continent is heading to Ladywell.

Ladywell Food Assembly is set for a launch and taster party at the Ladywell Tavern from 5.30pm on Tuesday, April 28.

It will give visitors the chance to meet farmers, bakers and other food producers from Kent and even closer to home.

Six hundred assemblies meet weekly in France and Belgium and money is fairly resdistributed among the producers.

MORE FOOD AND DRINK:

In Ladywell there will be the chance to buy fresh eggs and dairy products, meat, fruit and veg, fish and shellfish from Kent, jams and chutneys made with fruit foraged in Lewisham, gluten free pies, local cheeses and bread.

It is also an opportunity to swap recipes and ask questions about food from the people who grew or made it.

Ladywell Food Assembly host Moira Tait said: “The launch will be a great way for people to come and learn more about the Assembly and taste the amazing food on offer.”

“There's a dearth of fresh food in Ladywell and it isn’t always easy to eat and shop locally when we're all so busy, The Food Assembly website allows you to browse local food products and pay online before a weekly collection at the Ladywell Tavern.

“I’m delighted to have had the opportunity to bring this idea to Ladywell. Tuesday nights will never be quite the same again!”
