A Bromley gym is putting an end to fad diets with the launch of a new programme available to everyone and some top tips.

Putting aside the 5:2, the Atkins and the Paleo, Nuffield Health – which has a Fitness and Wellbeing Centre in Hayes Lane – is launching its Health Weight Programme to get people to a healthy weight in a healthy way.

Available to member and non-members, it is expert-led and includes two personalised nutrition consultations, two health MOTs, two personalised exercise sessions and specially-designed workouts.

Nuffield Health’s professional head of nutrition and founder of the programme shared her top tips to help you reach and maintain a healthy weight.

Don’t cut corners, or calories!

“Cutting calories is an outdated and ineffective way of losing weight. Limiting calories actually slows down your metabolism and can encourage the body to store fat. Focus on getting your body healthier, cutting out foods with no nutritional value and getting your metabolism to be more active through eating the right foods– the more active it is, the more fat you burn.”

Move more

“Whether you enjoy an exercise class, a walk to the shops or jog around the block, move as much as you can. Try to move a little bit more every day and you’ll not only look better, but you’ll feel better too.”

Become snack savvy

“If you know that you are affected by a 3pm slump, prepare something that will satisfy your craving and prevent you reaching for the biscuit tin. Snacks like organic peanut butter on rice cakes, a piece of dark chocolate or a handful of berries all taste great but have health benefits too.”

Eat Fats!

“Fats have a bad rep but good fats are very important for a healthy body. It is easy to incorporate oily fish, avocadoes, nuts and oils into our diets and they have so many benefits.”

Little and often

“Never skip a meal as this can wreak havoc with your blood sugar and lead you making poor diet choices to satisfy your cravings. By eating small healthy meals regularly, your metabolism is active, blood sugar remains stable and you are less likely to reach for unhealthy foods.”

News Shopper:

Positive portions

“One of the main reasons that weight can creep up is because of large portions sizes. You don’t need as much as you think you do!”

Slow and steady

“Our programme is not a quick fix weight loss plan, and we would encourage people not to think in this way. By changing lifestyle habits, making sensible diet choices and becoming more active, you will naturally reach your healthy weight and maintain it easily. People should learn that they don’t need to deprive themselves and that they can enjoy tasty, fulfilling food without piling on the pounds.”
