Gravesham (House of Commons)

Mr Adam Holloway MP (Conservative)

Surgery: 32 Queen's Street
Gravesend
Kent
DA12 2EE

Surgery Tel: 01474 332097

MP Since - 2005 Majority - 9,312 Born - 29/07/1965.
Education - Cambridge University (MA Social and Political Sciences), Imperial College (MBA), Sandhurst College.
Previous Occupation - Officer - Grenadier Guards (1987-92). Television Reporter - Newsnight, World in Action, ITN.

Personal Overview - Media aware former Army Officer whose journalism concentrated on the socially disadvantaged. A relatively recent convert to direct political involvement he was quoted as saying that he would prefer to 'be an actor than a critic', which coupled with his Armed Forces background should make for a 'hands-on' politician. Should he prove to acclimatise well within the Westminster Village he should make the Conservative front-bench, as one of their recent problems has been the supply of competent media performers. His representation of Gravesham is currently only through a small majority over Labour, though should the Conservative be set on a path to future Government his Commons membership is set relatively fair for the foreseeable future. His success at the 2005 General Election marked his first attempt to win elected office. The 2005 victory saw him unseat Labour social deprivation expert and junior minister Chris Pond. Resigned as a PPS in October 2011 after voting against the Government in favour of a referendum on Britain's membership of the European Union.

Political History - Member for Gravesham (2005-). Member of the Defence Select Committee (2006-10), (2012-). PPS to Rt Hon. David Lidington MP as Minister for Europe (2010-11).

Characteristics - Whilst a journalist he spent several months homeless in London whilst working on a series 'No Fixed Abode' which showed the plight of the capital's destitute community. His time with ITN was spent in Bosnia, as a London general reporter, and running the investigative unit for News at Ten. Involved with a number of charities he is a former Board Member of Christian Aid.
