Surgery: Advice Surgeries
If you would like to speak to me in person, the best way to do so is to attend one of my advice surgeries.
They are generally held twice a month (almost always on a Friday), from 3.00-6.00pm at either The Albany in Deptford or the Leemore Central Community Hub in Lewisham.
Click here for maps and directions.
Before coming to a surgery, you may wish to use the MP Finder Tool to check that I am your MP. Parliamentary protocol dictates that I can only take up issues on behalf of residents of Lewisham Deptford.
PLEASE NOTE THAT YOU DO NOT NEED TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT - all surgeries operate on a first come, first served basis.

MP Since - 1987 Majority - 12,499 Born - 28/12/1943, Separated (1990, died 1996), Partner (Frank Doran, MP for Aberdeen South).
Education - Pontypool Grammar School, Imperial College London.
Previous Occupation - Director of 'Shelter', National Campaign for Homeless (1968-73); Director of Oxford Housing Aid (1973-77); Special programmes officer (MSC) for unemployed young people, Berkshire County Council (1977-79); Manager Reading Citizens Advice Bureau (1979-86).
Personal Overview - Originally tended strongly towards the left of the Labour Party (Chairman CND 1981-85), but has moved more into the moderate centre ground in recent years. She is likely to have firm environmental opinions (Opposition Environment Spokesman until the 1997 election). In addition, her previous occupations suggest concern for social issues. Her spell as Minister for Women was not a prolonged one, terminated by the leadership during the first reshuffle, which was unkind to the extent that the position had been unpaid, due to the size of the ministerial team. More recent times have seen her role more orientated to holding Select Committee memberships, although moved back into a Junior Ministerial role in 2007, achieving promotion within her department in 2009. She was however left out of Ed Miliband's opposition team in October 2010.
Political History - MP Lewisham Deptford (1987-), Opposition Spokesperson for Transport (1989-92), Home Affairs (1992-94), Environmental Protection (1994-97), Parliamentary under Secretary of State for Women (1997-98). Member of the Modernisation Select Committee (2001-05), Environment, Food & Rural Affairs Select Committee (2003-05). Vice Chair, Parliamentary Labour Party Women's Committee (2005-07), Member of the International Development Select Committee (2005-07). Parliamentary under Secretary of State, Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (2007-08), Department of Energy and Climate Change (2008-09). Minister of State, Department of Energy and Climate Change (2009-10). Shadow Minister for Energy and Climate Change (2010).
Characteristics - DBE (2012). Seems to have been prepared to pragmatically adjust old beliefs to take into account modern realities.
