There’s nothing like a football activity to grab the attention of young people, add to that, an ex-premier league football player and you have their full attention.

Anwar Uddin, ex WestHam player, is an Ambassador for KICK IT OUT. Kick it Out, gives ambassadors the opportunity to raise awareness of the organisation, by engaging with the younger members of their local communities.

Anwar and Affinity Fostering Services have come together to work with young people in Foster Care and organise events that will raise the awareness of racial discrimination, equality and inclusion. The first event took place last week.

After a gloomy and wet start to the day, fortunately the weather brightened up. Anwar set up training events and challenges for the young people that really held their attention.

Carole Carter Director of Affinity Fostering said, “Young people in care are often ambivalent and disassociated about social issues. Here at Affinity we endeavour to engage them by tapping into their interests. There is more chance of them absorbing the message, if it’s done in a youth friendly manner. As the young people were all reluctant to leave when the session came to an end, and asked when the next one was, we take that as a clear sign that the event was successful.”

The young people were given a signed ‘Kick it Out ‘T shirt by Anwar and wristbands, to remind them of the day.
