Concert review: Chill Out Sunday, Starbucks, Bromley

Starbucks, Bromley, is supporting musicians in the borough by holding live music events. The first line-up of artists made a great impression on Hoang Phan.

It was star (bucks) in their eyes at the Bromley coffee shop last month, when the store held its first live music event.

Organised by motivated staff, under the theme Chill Out Sunday, a diverse mix of young artists from the borough were given the opportunity to perform live during the afternoon while shoppers enjoyed coffees.

The event was opened at noon by singer-songwriter Nikki Felle and guitarist Stu, who presented a soothing set of varied, light pop songs with surprisingly catchy melodies, complemented by the singer's country inspired vocals.

Also, her self-styled cover version of Duffy's Warwick Avenue caught the attention of customers and staff and they all listened on with intent.

Olly Andrews performed a range of powerful songs which were more on the rocky side. All were perfectly performed in his strong and edgy vocal.

The third act was guitarist Richie who played an instrumental set. Accompanied by a friend on the bongo, the duo delivered a high-precision performance of funky songs with jazz-inspired guitar parts.

Also part of the confirmed line up were Jake and Sam Elliot, who played later on during the afternoon.

Despite the good weather, the coffee shop was bustling with curious coffee drinkers while the artists sang and strummed away into the late afternoon.

“I am loving this,” said Chris Beavis, who came to listen to Nikki and Stu.

“It’s such a great idea to have some relaxing live music with my Sunday morning coffee. Takes the edge of a hangover too.”

Raise a mug to team Starbucks for organising an inspired day in support for young and local artists.
