Video: Afrika Afrika, The O2 ****
AFRICA has been making the news for all the wrong reasons recently with scenes of carnage in Kenya. But a new show at The O2 celebrates all which is great about the rich culture of the continent.
More than 150 performers put on an awe-inspiring spectacle combining dance, acrobatics, breakdancing and contortion leaving me open mouthed.
Afrika Afrika promises an African experience rather than just an African show; you can
sample food, drink and buy art and crafts before the show.
The amazing spread of fruit with everything from passion fruit to fresh pineapple, grapes, strawberries and star fruit was a particular highlight.
After I'd had my fill of food and drink it was time for the two hour performance showcasing different traditions from African countries from Angola to Tanzania, Ethiopia to Ghana.
Slick routines combined a range of spectacles from basketball being played on unicycles to
acrobats leaping up poles to two girls from Tanzania and Kenya spinning tables with their feet.
Prepare to be disturbed and
fascinated at the same time at Andre Heller's breathtaking show which will impress adults and children alike. Over 1 million
people have seen the show since it started in 2005 and the 2,000 plus crowd at the opening night seemed just as captivated as I was.
Guests, which included Big Brother twins Sam and Amanda, were going wild for the dazzling dancing which was held in the
impressive Tented Palaces next to The O2.
Another success story for the once-mocked dome, Afrika Afrika is a must see for all the family.
