FOLLOWING a successful event in 2011, the second Welling United beer festival was held at the club’s Park View Road ground on Friday and again produced fantastic results.

After five months of planning by a group of ‘Wings’ supporters spearheaded by Patsy Neal and Sy Parr, and with the financial backing of the Welling United Supporters Association, the first eager customers were allowed in at midday.

By the last admittance time of 9.30pm all glasses, beer tokens, food and t-shirts had been purchased.

Ten barrels of Real Ale plus two ciders and a perry were available for the thirsty public who drained every last pint.

However, the first beer to sell out, Grafton Silhouette, was not finished until well into the evening so the vast majority of customers had a choice from the full range upon arrival.

Waterfield provided background music playing two sets whilst there was hot and cold food to accompany the variety of styles of beer on offer.

Welling United President Eric Brackstone was there for the entire event and was delighted with the way it went.

He said: “It was pleasing to see so many people visit us, despite the heavy rain.

“We opened at 12pm and by 1.30pm sixty people had already arrived, and were all enjoying themselves, and this number increased every hour throughout the afternoon and evening.

“One group of CAMRA members had travelled from Christchurch in Dorset and told me how much they had enjoyed their time with us.”

Meanwhile, WUSA Chairman Matt Mein was thrilled to see the club’s bar so busy.

He added: “It was great to see so many new people drinking in the clubhouse. “All the ales on offer were great and it was no real surprise that they all went.”
