A near future in which Donald Trump becomes President of the United States and finds himself banned from the UK is explored in a bitter farce heading to south east London.

Playwright Sami Ibrahim’s Force of Trump is coming to The Jack Studio Theatre in Brockley from October 11 to 15, having won five-star reviews at runs in east London and Camden.

Set in 2017, it imagines President Trump stuck on Air Force One attempting to make a state visit to this country but banned after authorising US troops to torture British Muslim soldiers.

It is Ibrahim’s first full-length play to be staged in London, having recently graduated from university. One of his short plays was put on as part of The Jack’s Write Now festival in May.

He said: “The idea for the show came back in November last year when a petition to ban Donald Trump from the UK took off.

“After that I came up with the idea of a play which shows Donald Trump as President, stuck on Air Force One and banned from the United Kingdom.

“I developed the idea over the next few months and think I had a first draft by around March - I had assumed Trump (and the play) would be irrelevant by this point, but things didn’t quite turn out that way.”

As anyone with a Twitter account will know, Trump is relatively easy to mock but Ibrahim wanted his work to be more than ‘just an hour of laughing in the face of Donald Trump’.

He said: “I thought it would be nice to make the audience feel like they were watching a silly farce before undercutting them with something that tried to tackle Donald Trump a bit more seriously.”

Force of Trump is at The Jack Studio Theatre, Brockley, from October 11 to 15. Tickets cost £14 or £12 concessions. Go to brockleyjack.co.uk or call 0333 666 3366.
