A musical written by Bromley’s most famous son will open in London this autumn.

David Bowie wrote the music and lyrics to Lazarus, which was a sell-out in New York at the end of last year and into January of this year. It is now coming to Kings Cross Theatre from October 25 to January 22.

The show shares a name with a track on Bowie’s final album Blackstar and was similarly produced in secret as one of the last things the pop pioneer did before his death in January.

A collaboration with Enda Walsh, it is inspired by Walter Tevis’ novel The Man Who Fell To Earth and focusses on the life of Thomas Newton who remains on earth ‘a 'man' unable to die, his head soaked in cheap gin and haunted by a past love’.

Bowie, who moved to Bromley as a young child and grew up in the borough, starred in the Nicolas Roeg’s film adaptation of the novel in 1976.The opening night of Lazarus last year was his final public appearance.
