As if the huge gold chains aren’t ostentatious enough, Mayor of Dartford councillor Ian Armitt made another addition to his outfit this week.

The civic leader pulled on a giant plume of yellow and blue feathers – but stopped short of the high heels - as he joined boyband member Duncan James on stage to promote the latter’s musical Priscilla Queen of the Desert at the Orchard Theatre.

James, a chart topper with Blue, stars as Tick in the hit show about a drag queen who travels across the Australian outback in a bus called Priscilla with his friends who don’t know he’s on a quest to find his long-lost son.

Prior to the show arriving in Dartford, James told us: “It is just such a wonderful show to be a part of. I love playing the part, I love dressing up in the heels and the fun clothes. It is great.

“What other musical do you really get to have all that fun and have a storyline that is so beautifully written with great songs?”

Priscilla Queen of the Desert is at the Orchard Theatre until Saturday (April 30). Go to orchardtheatre.co.uk
