Six years is a long time in showbusiness – Joe McElderry won the X Factor, Kelly Brook was a judge on Britain’s Got Talent and a set of young stars were on the stage making a name for themselves in Dreamboats and Petticoats, which premiered at Bromley’s Churchill Theatre.

Its sequel, Dreamboats and Miniskirts, showcases the greatest hits of the 60s and, no doubt, a cast you’ll be able to look back on one day and say ‘I saw them in Bromley’.

After all, this is what happened to some of the 2009 Dreamboats and Petticoats cast:

Ben Freeman

Ben was already a star by the time he got to the stage in Dreamboats and Petticoats. He had played Scott Windsor in Emmerdale for nine years from 1998 until he left the show in 2007. Dreamboats was one of his first lead roles in theatre and he’s gone on to have an impressive West End career. Most recently, he played The Fonz in the tour of Happy Days.

Jennifer Biddall

Jennifer was another one of the show’s established stars, having played Jessica Harris in Hollyoaks from 2005 to 2008. Clearly things went well because Jennifer married co-star Ben in 2010 and they remain husband and wife and have two children. Most recently, you may have seen here in Doctors or Mount Pleasant.

Scott Bruton

Scott was arguably the biggest name on the cast list in 2009. He was fresh from the X Factor, where he made the live finals. We’ve not been able to find out much about what Scott’s up to since Dreamboats and Petticoats, though it’s fair to say the tour wasn’t a total success for him: he got injured on stage when a piece of scenery fell on his head at a show in Malvern, Worcestershire.

Daisy Wood-Davis

As a fresh-faced teenager Daisy appeared in Dreamboats and Petticoats aged just 19. The Bromley native won rave reviews as Laura and appeared on the cast album, which sold more than 60,000 copies. She went o the star as Janet in the European tour of the Rocky Horror Show and then played Poppy’s sister Tansy Meadow in EastEnders.

Since October last year, she has been a regular on Hollyoaks, playing Kim Butterfield.

AJ Dean and Patrick Burbridge

Playing Ray and Derek, AJ and Patrick also made their debuts in Bromley and after years of performing in rock n roll theatre shows such as Buddy and Save the Last Dance of Me, they formed their own retro rock n roll band, The Bluejays and have played with the likes of Brian May.

Emma Hatton

Emma made her West End debut in Dreamboats and Petticoats when it transferred from the tour, in the role of Donna. She went on to more West End success in We Will Rock You and is currently the star of one of the West End’s biggest shows, Wicked.

News Shopper:

Sam Palladio, AJ Dean and Mike Kantola

Sam Palladio

Kent-born Sam Palladio studied at Rose Bruford College in Sidcup and graduated in 2008 before taking on the role of Richard in Dreamboats and Petticoats. Few would have known the success to come.

Since 2012, Sam has played Gunnar Scott, one of the main roles, in the hit US TV show Nashville. That’s led to a string of single releases which have charted in the American country music charts and more the 100,000 Twitter followers.

Dreamboats and Miniskirts is at The Churchill Theatre, Bromley, from October 5 to 10. Go to atgtickets.com/Bromley
