The Russian State Ballet, led by artistic director Sergei Bobrov, have put together a smorgasbord of shows – which each take a year and a half to come to fruition – and will perform La Fille mal Gardee, Coppelia and Swan Lake in Bromley with a cast of more than 40 dancers and 30 musicians.

Mr Bobrov explained the process of bringing the shows to Britain following long days of preparation in Russian.

He said: “We are currently showing our performances in Krasnoyarsk, getting ready for annual tour in the UK. This will be our 13th year so we are strongly attached to the tastes of the British audience.

“During a tour all is clear and calm, we come completely ready. And my task is only to maintain the quality. However the amount of performances is very big for the tour compared to Krasnoyarsk and it's not easy.”

The Moscow City Ballet features some of Russia’s best young dancers, principals and soloists and will perform their signature Tchaiovsky-scored Swan Lake from January 20 to 24 at The Orchard Theatre in Dartford, accompanied by a live orchestra.

The company was founded in 1988 by Victor Smirnov-Golovanov, who died last year. It remains in the hands of his wife Ludmila Neroubashchenko, who is now the artistic director.

She said: “Last season was emotional and daunting with it being our first UK tour since Victor died and the company’s 25th Anniversary, but the audiences were amazing and supportive.

“We’re thrilled they want us back so soon; demand has been so great for next season that we’re bringing more dancers, more staging and more costumes.”
