A well-loved amateur dramatics group has won a clutch of international awards.

West Wickham Operatic Society picked up seven awards at the International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival in Harrogate this summer.

The three-week festival was supported by amateur societies from all over the world and saw a professional company present three productions.

The outfit from West Wickham’s production of Pirates of Penzance bagged the big prize, Festival Champions, as well as best director for Kevin Gauntlett, best choreographer for Nadine Plater, best musical director for John Hargreaves, best male performance for Kevin Gauntlett, best female character for Nadine Plater and best animated chorus.

West Wickham Operatic Society’s next show, the wild west musical Calamity Jane is at the Churchill Theatre in Bromley from November 11 to 15.
