THE EXTRAORDINARY and tragically short life of Billie Holiday will be brought to life on stage at The Churchill.

Multi-talented singer, actress and writer Nina Kristofferson’s Billie Holiday Story comes to Bromley on April 8 as part of a UK tour which follows a sell-out season at London’s Charing Cross Theatre.

It’s a engaging and emotive look at the jazz legend’s eventful life, featuring her greatest songs and a jazz band backing.

Nina, from Birmingham, debuted the show at the Edinburgh Festival in 2011 and still remembers the first time she heard the singer’s distinctive voice.

She said: “I first heard Billie Holiday on the radio when I was very young and immediately fell in love with the song ‘God Bless the Child’.  I remember singing along with her using my hairbrush for a mic.”

As she got older, her appreciation grew and it was an obvious choice when she was looking for inspiration for a show.

Nina said: “I wanted to nurture and bring forth someone who was iconic and who had a great story to tell.

“Reading about Billie Holiday’s life, realising what she went through and what she achieved with her music, it’s totally inspiring and if I could have an inch of her career I’d be laughing.”

Tickets cost £26.90 to £39.90 at atgtickets.com/Bromley or on 0844 8717627.
