Here's another great idea for easy but impressive party hair styling from the team at Graham Webb International. Quick, easy, super-cool and ready for the Christmas party season.

Ponyclub divas

This year the style that ticks all the boxes is a ponytail and, come party time, it's arguably the easiest way to grab a new look with very little effort.

With a pony the dressage is up to you!

Get the style: Use a brush to sweep hair back off your face and into a ponytail and then secure with a covered band. A quick tip is to tilt your head back which helps gather the hair all at once and it won't bunch at the back of your neck. Also, backcombing your hair at the roots before drawing the hair into a band will add height and volume for a less severe look on square faces or add balance to more round face shapes.

Fix the base of your ponytail at a high point if you have long hair, but nearer the nape of the neck if you have shorter hair to avoid it looking tufty. If you prefer a softer, feminine look simply pull pieces free to frame the face and don't be shy with the accessories from ribbons and flowers to ornaments.

Want to move it on? For a killer groomed look, use a heat protective spray then run straightening irons through the loose ends of the tail.

Finally, spritz all over with shine spray to finish. Dramatic eye make-up and siren-style party gear will complete this sleek chic style.

Your questions answered

Q. I have very thick, long, heavy hair and I have heard that cutting into the hair' might take some of the weight out of it. Can you tell me what this means and what effect it would have on my hair?

A. The term cutting into it' basically means thinning', and reducing weight so yes this should help you. Instead of just cutting straight and structured lines the stylist would cut freely through out the hair reducing weight in the problem areas, this can be done with thinning scissors, a razor, or with normal hairdressing scissors using different techniques.

The times that you must be careful are with fine hair as it could cause the hair to look finer. If you have very thick hair, check if it has a tendency to kink in areas or become very frizzy, as this may be made worse as the shorter pieces of hair will not have the weight to stop this from happening once they are cut.

I would advise that you have a good chat to your stylist and they will explain exactly what will work for you.
