Enchanting, and hilarious, Grimm Fairy Tales to be performed outside in Bexley

A darkly magical open-air adaptation of Grimm Fairy Tales is set to enchant audiences in Bexley.

The Pantaloons theatre company will perform its grisly – and amusing – take on the classic stories at Hall Place and Gardens on July 19.

It is often forgotten the Grimm versions of Hansel and Gretel, Cinderella, The Frog Prince and so on, are a little more grim than you might expect.

But in the hands of The Pantaloons they are also more hilariously funny than ever been before.

Mark Hayward, producer, said: “We try to include something for everyone.

“Children will love these tales as much as they ever have – particularly the more horrible elements – and adults will enjoy the clever ways in which the tales are staged along with the incredibly funny gags we’ve worked into the show.”

With a cast of just five actors playing over a hundred parts, audiences can expect plenty of fast changes, cross-dressing, comedy wigs and silly walks.

“There will be plenty of surprises along the way as each fairy tale will be told in a different style.” Mark said.

“There’s puppetry, poetry, parody, music, magic, masks and even a tale in German – with translators, of course.”

This is the third year The Pantaloons will perform at Hall Place.

Mark added: “We’re absolutely thrilled to be returning to such a beautiful location.

“It’s the perfect setting for this magical show.”

Grimm Fairy Tales is suitable for all ages but very small children might want to bring an adult to hide behind.

Gates open at 6pm and the show starts at 7pm.

Tickets are between £8 and £12.
