Thamesmead fox cub saved from watery grave

A FOX cub is recovering after nearly drowning in the canal running through Thamesmead town centre.

The lucky animal, nicknamed Splash, was saved by a resident who dived into the water to rescue her.

Staff at Goddard Vet Group in Dawson Way, Thamesmead, used hair dryers, towels and hot water bottles to dry her off and gave her a thorough health check.

They estimated her to be between six and eight weeks old and in need of regular feeding so student veterinary nurse Amy Cowcher took her home to care for her.

She has now been collected by The Fox Project, a Kent-based charity which will eventually release her back into the wild.

Ms Cowcher said: "I hadn’t cared for a fox before but she was a delight – very friendly and loved cuddles."
