INCREASING numbers of independent book stores are being forced to close, so UK authors have joined forces to support these businesses via Independent Booksellers Week.
One of the 300 plus stores taking part in the first event of its kind is Kirkdale Bookshop, Sydenham.
Writers and authors from the surrounding area, such as Mohammed Hanif Michael Hodges and Jad Adams are set to talk and read from their texts.
The store has also organised other page-turning events such as philosophy for children, an open book group and a beach party and summer exhibition of local art (which you are invited to submit to).
July 1 to July 8. Call 020 8778 4701.
