THERE have been many famous dance offs in film and music history. Danny and Sandy hand-jived to victory in Grease, Run DMC has a breakdancing contest in the It's Like That video and, more recently, celebs battled for the Strictly Come Dancing crown.
Now thanks to Dance Off 2008, everyone can join in. The event, which ties in with Adult Learners Week, celebrates different styles and forms of dance from all over the world and from cross-cultural traditions such as French chantraine, Latin American ballroom, salsa, belly dancing, contemporary Caribbean and ballet.
Kathak, a north Indian, storytelling form of dance will be taught at the Horniman Museum as part of the cultural awareness-driven initiative.
Dance Off 2008, May 17 and May 18. Kathak classes May 18 and May 25, Horniman Museum, Forest Hill. 3pm. Free. 020 8699 1872.
