A gorgeous group of golden stars made their furry first appearance at the London Pet Show.

Arguably the cutest dance troupe in the world, the Southern Golden Retriever Display Team – which has performed at Crufts for nine years running - delighted crowds at Earl’s Court during the animal-packed event.

Led by their owners, the 16 waggy-tailed entertainers performed to their favourite hits by Lady Gaga and Katy Perry over the weekend of May 12 and 13.

Karen Menter, from Swanley, is the team’s choreographer and organiser.

She told News Shopper: “The performances were really great – there was not one which was a disaster.

“It was a really good atmosphere – relaxed if you had time to relax.”

The blonde bombshells, of which there are 21 including the reserves, have been practising routines together for more than 10 years.

Thanks to Karen and the rest of the humans’ hard work, and the beautiful goldens’ ever-happy faces, the North Kent based team have captured the hearts of countless fans all over the country.

As well as helping one man propose to his girlfriend in the most adorable fashion, they have also been booked to perform at a wedding in the woods next year.

Karen added: “There are little imperfections in the performances but people seem to love that.

“There’s lots of scratching that goes on at Crufts because it’s artificial turf – generally Crufts is a real scratchy affair.

“It’s sometimes a nervous thing as well - they don’t know what else to do when they’re sitting in formation.

“I love it.

“I love showing my dog off and doing it in a group as well.

“People think they’re lovely.

“If they’ve had retrievers and lost them they say ‘it brings a tear to my eye watching them.’”

The dedicated team practises weekly outdoors come rain or shine to ensure the routines are paw-fect.

They joined show jumping rabbits, pygmy hedgehogs, slithering snakes and cute cats at the show.
