ARTIST David Lockett is exhibiting his latest works at the Limelight Gallery in Lewisham Library.
The paintings and drawings explore the ever changing environment of Deptford Creek, which David has been depicting in his work for more than 20 years.
David said: “The scrap metal yards of Stowage have been replaced by riverside apartments, and Canary Wharf has grown into its own metropolis.
"In the near distance the Millennium Dome has become The 02 and the industrial river has been reduced to a few boats carrying sand.
Each day the flow of the tides unearth the debris of the past and there seems to be a constant collision between history and the natural world.
"My mental image often centres on the setting or rising sun, perhaps after rain, streaming down the bridge, creating a strange light to right and left.
"However much building takes place, I think the magic of the Creek will remain, and I hope the boats still keep carrying the sand.”
