As our Olympic athletes head over to Brazil, a little bit of the country is coming to south east London too.

The Horniman Museum and Gardens in Forest Hill is hosting its own Festival of Brasil, full of events and exhibitions, from Sunday, July 3, to Sunday, September 4.

The season kicks off with the Festa Julina party in the gardens on July 3.

Other highlights include the Labirinto evening of contemporary dance, music and installations curated by award-winning Brazilian choreographer Jean Abreu on July 28, photography exhibitions, Brazilian street art, film screenings and outdoor concerts on the bandstand terrace.

Wednesdays in August will be filled with performances, workshops, stories and more by artists commissioned to share Brazilian culture with families and playschemes.

The Horniman’s director of curatorial and public engagement Tim Corum said: “Through collaborations with Brazilian artists and communities, inspired by their everyday lives and neighbourhoods, Festival of Brasil provides an insight into the participatory nature of Brazilian art.

“Our programme of rich content invites visitors of all ages to take part in the creative process, whether through dancing or making art and music, being part of a digital conversation or simply experiencing and reflecting on the newly commissioned performances and artworks.”
