South east London can be a lovely place to raise a family – and it seems even the dinosaurs have got the message because a brood is moving into Forest Hill for a new exhibition.
Dinosaurs: Monster Families opens at the Horniman Museum on February 13 that looks into the family life of dinosaurs through interactive exhibits, specimens from around the world and life-sized models.
The Horniman’s keeper of Natural History, Jo Hatton said: “We may think of dinosaurs as “monsters” but this exhibition reveals they were actually excellent parents who cared for their young.
“By studying fossils of dinosaur nests, eggs and babies, and comparing them to their living descendants such as birds and crocodiles, we can gain a new insight to the family lives of these creatures which continue to fascinate and enthral us.”
Illustrations and photographs will capture the imagination while visitors can meet Baby Louie, the near complete dinosaur embryo skeleton, or dig in the discovery pit, touch a real dinosaur leg bone and look a collection of fossils. There’s even a life-sized cast of a Tarbosaurus (a relative of the T Rex) skeleton.
Dinosaurs: Monster Families is at the Horniman from February 13 to October 30. Go to horniman.ac.uk/dinosaurs
