Forest Hill’s Horniman Museum had received a prestigious award for quality green space.

The Horniman, whose gardens span 16.5 acres and include award-winning display gardens – from food and dyes to an interactive sound garden – as well as parkland and views across London, has won a Green Flag Award.

It has been given the prize every year since 2005 and is among a record-breaking 1,582 venues this year.

The Horniman’s head of horticulture Wes Shaw said: “Thousands of visitors each year enjoy our Gardens as a place of recreation and relaxation. Just as gratifying is that artists – like Edward Chell, whose Bloom display is currently open in our Natural History Gallery – find their inspiration in our beautiful plants and Gardens. We’re proud to fly the Green Flag at the Horniman.”

The Horniman’s Nature Trail has also been awarded its seventh Green Flag Community Award.
