Arguably the most memorable view in London of this Friday’s solar eclipse will be had in Greenwich.

Thrill-seeking climbers will be able to go up to the top of the O2 to watch the cosmic event, the biggest in 18 years, complete with specialist eye protection so you can have a good gawp and refreshments.

Guests will start at 8am and conquer the 52m summit in plenty of time to see the 85 per cent eclipse of the sun at 9.30am.

Only 10 pairs of tickets are available and they are being given away on twitter TODAY (March 18). Simply follow @UpatTheO2 and retweet the competiton post. Winners will be chosen at random.

Up at The O2’s general manager Steve Buchan said: “This is the first solar eclipse in 18 years and what better way to experience it than on top of The O2, a building that didn’t even exist the last time this happened.

“Our climbers will enjoy a view like no other in London, watching the eclipse as it bathes the river and Canary Wharf in darkness.  We have specialist eye protection for all climbers ensuring they’ll not miss a thing.”
