School children are being asked to get creative and decorate at one of the nation’s best preserved Art Deco buildings.
Eltham Palace is being given a spectacular £1.7 million makeover this spring with new rooms revealed fo the first time in decades.
But don’t worry, English Heritage isn’t planning on letting youngster loose with the felt tips on the walls – kids are being encouraged to enter a drawing competition to feature on the hoarding panels which will be up until April.
The palace’s previous owners, the Courtauld family, lived a glamorous lifestyle of exciting travel and teachers are being asked to see how the idea of travel fires the imaginations of the pupils, with classes designing travel-inspired drawings based on Eltham Palace’s Art Deco connection.
Entries need to be submitted by school groups by January 23. E-mail chantelle.joysury@english-heritage.org.uk or call 01525 863 768 for information.
Eltham Palace will remain open to the public as normal on Sundays and during February half term, when there will be regular craft activities.
The makeover will be completed and unveiled in April.
