Orpington’s a busy town with no shortage of things to keep you occupied. We picked out five things to see and do if you’ve got an hour or so to spare.

Sweet charity

News Shopper:

The proliferation of charity shops in Orpington has gotten some stick in the past but the fact is they’re great. Whether you want furniture, nick nacks, books, DVDs, designer togs at a low price or even, erm, a mangle, it’s all there and your money is going to a good cause.

Cafe culture

News Shopper:

If it’s a coffee you’re after, then Orpington is your Oyster. Mystic Brew does a great selection of loose leaf teas and Cafe Panacea is ideal for a mocha and a piece of cake.

Eat out

News Shopper:

For something more substantial than a coffee, the town is again overflowing with options. All the usual fast food choices are here along with a couple of pubs  and nice chains while the likes of TexMex joint Fiesta Mexicana, Turkish restaurant Hisar Meze Bar and Ephesus make the lower end of the High Street a treat.

Park Life

News Shopper:

Sit by the duck pond and watch the world go by in Priory Gardens.

Do as the Romans

News Shopper:

Crofton Roman Villa, near the station, is the only Roman villa open to the public in Greater London and was the centre of a farming estate between around 140 and 400AD. There’s always lots going on for families too. Go to cka.moon-demon.co.uk/villa.htm
