Susan Sarandon has donated 75,000 dollars to support table tennis programmes in New York City public schools.
The Oscar-winning star's donation will pay for equipment and coaching, the city's department of education said.
The Lovely Bones star Susan - a mother of three - is the co-owner of a table tennis club in Manhattan called SPIN, and she told The Wall Street Journal that the sport relieves stress and is great for kids who are unfocused and need exercise.
Deputy Schools Chancellor Kathleen Grimm thanked the 66-year-old Hollywood actress, who will next be seen in historical/sci-fi film Cloud Atlas, for her strong support.
