EVEN those unfamiliar with British rock band The Zombies are likely to have appreciated the regeneration of the timeless classic Time of the Season, featured on the successful Magners cider adverts last year.

Yes, your dad probably likes them, but this is no reason to dismiss the addictive laid back sound of hits such as She's Not There and Tell Her No.

This collection of hits from their 1960s albums, along with band members' more recent solo projects on the latter half of the album, lives up to the same standard.

Vocalist Colin Blunstone's solo material is also pretty mellow but, in contrast to Rod Argent's substantial and rockier tracks, feels weaker.

This shouldn't be one of your MP3 player's guilty secrets, instead, embrace this as an unconventional and retro soundtrack to the summer.

The finale is a surreal 1981 duet between Colin and Dave Stewart of What Becomes of the Broken Hearted - an interesting concept but a little out of place on what is otherwise a credible record.

See The Zombies live at The Orchard, Dartford on May 21 and Fairfield Halls Croydon May 29.
