STEVE REICH's minimalist composition City Life has inspired a classical meets contemporary jazz soundclash in Blackheath. The Music String Ensemble, Contemporary Jazz Ensemble and Composition Faculty from Trinity College of Music will perform three modern city-inspired works as well, new student compositions and improvisation.
Sections of Reich's work - famous for the use of urban sounds such as car horns, screeching brakes voices, alarms and sirens to evoke the composer's native New York - will also be performed.
To give the performances a London feel, photography and imagery indicative of our Capital will be shown. There will also be some audience interaction.
City Life, May 8 at Blackheath Halls, 23 Lee Road, Blackheath. 020 8463 0100.
