Huge 80th birthday concert for Lewisham’s Rolling Stone Bill Wyman announced as part of star-studded BluesFest in Greenwich

Special guests at the one-off gig at IndigO2 on Friday, October 28, include Mark Knopfler, Bob Geldof, Imelda May and Mick Hucknall.

Taking place from October 28 to 30, BluesFest once again uses the whole of The O2 – from the main arena to the 800-capacity Brooklyn Bowl – for three-days of music.

Other highlights include Paul Rodgers’ rock supergroup Bad Company featuring Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora as well as shows by Van Morrison, Walter Trout and Jeff Beck.

Festival director Leo Green said: “Last year’s BluesFest, which marked the first time a blues festival had been held at The O2, was a resounding success.

This year we’ve looked to build on that success and to deliver a bigger, better event that showcases the captivating diversity of blues, soul and roots music and all the genres it’s had an impact on."

Wyman was born in Lewisham hospital in 1936 and grew up in Miall Road, Sydenham. He attended Beckenham and Penge County Grammar School – now Langley Park School for Boys.

He joined the Rolling Stones in 1962 and played bass in the band through to 1993, rejoining them on stage at their 50th anniversary shows in 2012.

In 1965, after the Rolling Stones moved out of their shared house in Chelsea, Wyman – the oldest of the band - bought a house in Penge High Street.
