Young musicians in Lewisham can compete for a potentially life-changing prize.

The Talent Clash competition will see one winner aged 16 to 19 claim prizes worth more than £15,000, including the chance to record at Abbey Road studios, distribution for their track, a slot to perform to 25,000 people at Lewisham People’s Day, professional mentorship, a professional promotional video and the opportunity to tour around the UK.

Young musicians have until February 26 to submit one track in any genre and a one minute presentation video, and public voting is already open.

A panel of industry professionals will vote on a top 30 from February 29 to March 4 and then the top 10 will get a masterclass with ‘key industry players’ on March 17 before a live final on March 18.

Second prize is £600 worth of gift vouchers and third is £300 worth of gift vouchers.

The competition is being supported by secondary schools and sixth form colleges in the borough and is organised by Fame Music alongside the Midi Music Company, Lewisham Council and the Young Mayor for Lewisham.

Lewisham mayor Sir Steve Bullock said: “ Lewisham has always been a place where talented young musicians have had the opportunity to get started and the Fame Music Talent Clash Competition will give the current generation their chance too.

“Some of those names from the past have gone on to become international stars and we may get the chance to hear some stars of the future in the next few months.”
