South east London’s premier music festival OnBlackheath returns this weekend with a top line up of music, food and family fun on the common.
Here’s everything you need to know:
- It’s on Saturday, September 12, and Sunday, September 13 on Dartmouth Field, Blackheath
Music
- Saturday’s music on the main stage starts around 1.30pm with Kyle Riabko and includes BBC Introducing Venice Trip and a DJ set from Tropical Dope, Jack Savoretti and Anna Calvi in the afternoon.
- As Saturday evening draws in, Manic Street Preachers are on at 7pm and Elbow headline from 8.45pm.
- Sunday afternoon’s music on the main stage consists of DJ sets from The Specials’ Jerry Dammers and David Rodigan, Chainska Brassika, the cast of The Kinks musical Sunny Afternoon and Laura Mvula.
- In the evening on Sunday, Kelis is on at 5.45pm.
- Madness headline from 8pm on Sunday.
- As well as the main stage, there are stages presented by Heavenly Recordings, Giles Peterson, Make Noise and Meantime Brewery.
Food
- A food stage will feature mouth watering chefs including the likes of Jamie Oliver’s mentor Gennaro Contaldo (pictured), Andy McLeish from Chapter One in Bromley and Chapters in Blackheath and baking sisters Hemsley and Hemsley.
- Kelis will also cook up a treat on the food stage before she heads over to the main stage.
- You don’t just have to watch the chefs cook, you can let them cook for you too in the The Chef’s Club Food Banquet. It costs a bit more but top-notch chefs will create two dishes and accompanying drinks. Go to onblackheath.com/food-lineup
Kids
- A giant kids area will feature everything from a maze to a playground, a village fete, storytime, urban arts and characters from hit TV show Milkshake.
- Plus, children under 12 go free all weekend.
Travel
- The nearest train station is Lewisham (also DLR) is only an eight minute walk away on foot. Blackheath station is 10 minutes away on foot and Greenwich is 20.
- There is a taxi rank by the north east side of the site.
- There won’t be any parking nearby so it’s best to leave the car at home.
- Adult weekend tickets cost £89, and day tickets cost £54 or £45 while kids aged 13 to 16 are a bit cheaper (£54/£35/£25).
