Up and coming acts will perform free outdoor gigs in Greenwich thanks to craft brewer Meantime.

To celebrate its partnership as the official beer of OnBlackheath Festival in September, the Greenwich brewery will host six In the Meantime gigs at its Beer Box by The O2.

The Beer Box launched last year with a surprise gig by indie band We Are Scientists and this year’s series will feature artists including Hollie Cook, Furs and Bad for Lazarus playing just before the main event at the dome.

Kicking off at 6pm, the shows will feature two acts and will be hosted by resident DJ Lulu Le Vay.

They are intended as a warm-up and taster for OnBlackheath which returns for a second year on September 12 and 13. The food and music festival features the likes of Madness, Laura Mvula, Kelis, Manic Street Preachers, Elbow and magician Dynamo.

Meantime’s marketing director Richard Myers said: “OnBlackheath Festival takes place right on our doorstep and as the area is so integral to our identity it’s a perfect opportunity to engage with locals, music lovers and craft beer aficionados alike.

“Last year we were the official beer partner of the festival, and this year we’re going one step further by launching the Meantime Sessions Stage to showcase upcoming talent.

“We’re firm believers in supporting local talent – whether that’s the next generation of modern craft brewers, local artists or musicians.

“It’s always been at our heart to continually innovate and look for fresh approaches, which is why the ‘In The Meantime’ gigs at the Beer Box, and the Meantime Sessions Stage at the festival itself are an exciting addition to our calendar this year.”
