A pair of talented young musicians from south east London have been given a leg-up in the music industry and will perform alongside Beth Orton this weekend.

Greenwich drummer David Dyson, 23, and Goldsmiths student and singer-songwriter Lucy Cait, 21, were chosen for the inaugural Ed Renshaw Music Award.

The prize is dedicated to the memory of talented guitarist Ed, from Greenwich, who died aged 30 in 2011.

The winners will receive up to £1,500 to help their careers, as well as support from The Albany in Deptford and Peter Conway Management, and were picked from a long list of entrants by representatives from Ed’s family, the Albany and Peter Conway Management.

On Saturday (October 25), David and Lucy will both perform at An Evening for Ed at the Albany.

BRIT award winning folk hero Beth Orton will perform as a special guest in a bill that also includes Alec Dankworth’s World Spirit, Jorge Bravo, Jac Jones and Tony Coe.

Doors open at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £15 or £10 standing. Go to thealbany.org.uk or call 020 86924446.
